I first published this book in 1999, a few months before the The Matrix motion picture was released. This was my first book, and there’s no other like our first one. So in the past decade I have been updating this Cyberpunk 2.0: Fiction And Contemporary. And instead of seeing it turning obsolete I witnessed it become very real, present and obvious.

This Second edition of Cyberpunk 2.0: Fiction And Contemporary is about the “reloading matrix” of media, how videoclip culture globalized itself, and also how new media and online fashions crossed each other’s paths. Science-Fiction aesthetics are preceding, as well as they’re contemporary and beyond any image of the future we might have. Where or when we’re heading now, there’s an Asian megalopolis skyline awaiting for our visit. In such places, much of the cyberpunk fiction is real, the icons of cybernetic world are among us, and high-tech gear is just part of the set of everyday life. Some new trends came up like banding dance culture, online gaming, mobile Web, anime graphic cultures, culture jamming, and many others as Tetsoo’s motion-design. The fact is that hypermodern digital shockwaves are still on the loose. As a matter of fact, the future is what we make of it.” Herlander Elias

Lyda Borelli in Rapsodia Satanica (1915)

Dressed as Salome, Alba d’Oltrevita (Lyda Borelli) repents the suicide of Sergio because of her in Rapsodia Satanica (Nino Oxilia 1889-1917).

Lyda Borelli (1887-1959) was already an acclaimed stage actress before she became the first diva of the Italian silent cinema. The fascinating film star caused a craze among female fans called ‘Borellismo‘. She stars as the narcissistic Alba d’Oltrevita, a woman who makes a Faustian pact with the devil in exchange for the promise of eternal youth and the worldly pleasures it unlocks.

“The space-age voodoo-dub sonority of HHY & THE MACUMBAS is in a way connected to the legacy of Norbert Wiener, the father of cybernetics and the dark hero of the Information Age, mostly because of the utilization of dub´s manipulation techniques. This may be the center of the summum mysterium of the cybernetic mediation inasmuch as enhancer mechanism for the creation of a true and mystical Temporary Autonomous Zone….”

HHY & THE MACUMBAS: Skull-Cave Dub, combining a feverish barrage of bone-percussion, electric synths, sub-bass, clusters of horns and echo. After an enigmatic performance at Sonar 2011, and a Europe tour with memorable shows, this formation gives it’s first concert of 2012 in the context of the Sonores radio transmissions.
